Nevada Robotics Curriculum

Books & Bots

Books and Bots is curriculum developed by Nevada Robotics staff that partners popular story books with VEX 123 robotics lessons to promote literacy and teach computer science. All lessons meet state computer science, math, and ELA standards. Lessons may also meet art standards. Each lesson provides the opportunity for teachers to incorporate Social Emotional Learning competencies. Books & Bots lessons are accompanied by a School-Home Connection. These handouts are for students to take home to their parents and guardians and provide information about the Books & Bots lesson. They also include home activities and extensions that children can do with their families. Each School-Home Connection includes a DRI scientist profile so children can learn about the research that is happening around the state and world.

PreK

One Page Activities

We’ve created quick 15-30 minute robotics ELA and math activities for VEX 123 to tie in to many different different story books for PreK!

B-Best Project Promotes Energy Conservation Using Foundational STEM Skills

Nevada Robotics and PowerShift by NV Energy are partnering to promote energy saving tips using robots as a learning tool. As part of the B-BEST project, PreK -5  educators across Nevada will receive professional development on how to use robots and the story book, Earth Hour by Nanette Heffernan, to teach both energy saving tips and coding skills and strategies.  Earth Hour introduces readers to the worldwide celebration of Earth and encourages us to turn out the lights to conserve energy. Images and text highlight how we use energy in our daily lives.
